Minimalist Monochrome. An intimate elopement shoot as featured on Festival Brides

Updated: Jul 4, 2020

The inspiration behind this shoot was a balance of my love for monochrome (of course!) minimalism, and the increase in couples choosing to elope. The stars of the show are my gorgeous friends Sam and Sophie who just have the most insane chemistry.

Sophie has the most INSANE style. I’m always swooning hard over her wardrobe. It was super important to me to show off her personality through the styling choices. Someone who respects the traditional, but the mould doesn’t quite fit.

Alex from Arena Hair and Ruby worked together to create this catwalk look, just the perfect level of extra. It complimented this stunning E and W Couture gown so well.

All the elements came together so beautifully on the day, the slit in the dress to reveal those killer pins and Sophie’s unique tattoos… as well as THOSE boots.

I’d recently launched my Hand Painted Wedding Jackets and was keen to create something to compliment these killer details. There were two designs, the ‘forget me not’ jacket, a design actually created for Sophie’s twin sister, Becky, and the ‘Genau’ jacket.

Ahead of the shoot I got in touch with both sisters to ask for design inspiration. The personalisation service I provide is unique to each person, and it was important to me that right from the onset each ‘prototype’ I released was made using the client focused approach I use across my collections. While Becky opted for a botanical design with her favourite flowers, Sophie wanted a celestial design. Keen to get as much personality into the designs as possible, I asked both sisters for their favourite words or phrases. Sophie chose ‘genau’ which means ‘exactly’ in German.

This is my favourite image from the shoot, not just because Sophie and Sam are the most ridiculous couple ever (insert flame emoji) but all the styling comes together SO beautifully. The insane pearls by Ruby J Beauty, the stuuuuunnnnniiiinnnngggggg all white bouquet by Charlotte of Frond & Bloom (which compliment the dried button hole so well)… but mostly, the magic.

Queue the retreat back to the house and round 2 of dreamy monochrome details. THAT CAKE by Sonia from Rock n Roll Baker took oooover my Instagram for weeks following this shoot, it was everywhere! And with good reason. It’s unreal. Sonia crafts the most beautiful, delicate wedding cakes, and took direction to a whole new plain of amazing. Becky from R and R Weddings & Events provided the dreamiest monochrome invitation suite which complimented everything so well.

I wanted to bring my modern wedding dream to life: a gorgeous couple, and the most extra dinner party for 4-6 people following a city wedding. We hired the most beautiful space (as one might for a lovely weekend away) which was a monochrome lovers DREAM. The wonderful Helen of @theinteriorslady has completely renovated this city centre house over recent years. The details are minimal, but impactful; it was the perfect blank canvas setting for this celebration.

Here you’ll find a real collaboration between suppliers. Whenever you can, do ask your suppliers for recommendations as often they’ll have experience working with others and will know exactly the right person to bring your wedding vision to life! It’s got to the point now where me, Charlotte, and my gorgeous work wife Sian from This Will Be Forever have worked together it’s seamless.

Caroline Goosey captured the work of our Nottingham based team so beautifully. I’ve worked all of these dreamy suppliers several times now and couldn’t recommend them more. If you fall in love with these images as much as we did… you can check out the full feature and supplier lists here.
